Of course, work is important for us all, it gives us money to live, it gives structure to our everyday lives. But for a happy, balanced life, it’s also important to ‘play’ sometimes. It’s important to find time to relax with friends and family.

It’s not good to think about work all the time. I know from my work as a doctor that it’s sometimes difficult not to take your work problems home – but if you take your problems home you never relax and it’s difficult for your family and bad for your health.

一直心系工作不利于身心健康。作为一名医生我知道，不把工作问题带回家绝非易事 – 但是，如果你把工作问题带回了家，你就很难得到放松，于你的家庭、健康而言亦非好事。

Don’t live to work, work to live! Life is more than work.

Work hard, play hard — it's a phrase we hear often but one that's easier said than done. Who has the time to play hard when they're working so much? And, vice versa, who has the energy to get anything done when they're always having fun?

我们常常听到人们说：认真工作、愉快玩耍，但却是说起来容易做起来难。当工作堆积如山时，谁还有时间去愉快地玩耍？反之亦然，当我们纵情娱乐之时，谁还有精力去完成工作？

But you can use your time wisely, work efficiently and play responsibly to find a work-life balance. There is a saying that “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” So, all work and no play is no way to live life and all play and no work isn't possible for most of us. Thus, we need to find ways to strike a work-life balance.

然而，你可以明智地规划时间，提高工作效率，合理地安排时间玩耍，找到工作和生活的平衡。有句话说，只工作不玩耍，聪明孩子也变傻。因此，只工作不玩耍不是正确的生活方式，只玩耍不工作于我们大多数人来说亦是不可能的。所以，我们需要想办法平衡我们的工作与生活。

In short, work-life balance is the state of equilibrium where a person equally prioritizes the demands of one’s career and the demands of one’s personal life. In today’s world, increased responsibilities at work and home, having children, taking care of elderly parents, etc., could all lead to a poor work-life balance. But we have to accept that there is no ‘perfect’ work-life balance.

简而言之，工作与生活的平衡是一种我们可以同时兼顾事业与生活的平衡状态。在当今世界，工作和家庭责任的增加，生孩子，照顾年迈的父母等等，都可能导致工作和生活失衡。但我们必须接受没有 “完美” 的工作与生活平衡。

Some days, you might focus more on work, while other days you might have more time and energy to pursue your hobbies or spend time with your loved ones. It’s really difficult for us to separate work from life. You just need to find your own ways to strike the balance.

有些时候，你可能更专注于工作，而有些时候，你可能有更多的时间和精力去追求爱好或陪伴亲人。把工作和生活分开并非易事，你需要设法找到工作与生活的平衡点。

For instance, when you are eager to improve your English, but you are really busy at work at the moment, and the balance is more on the work side, you need to think about ways that you can incorporate more English into your daily routine, such as listening to English on your way to work, making full use of your fragmented time to memorize or recite English.
